The Dark Knight

I am going to start off a bit negative only because this film is so obviously good. Although I thoroughly love this film, and quite like the trilogy as a whole package, I don’t think that Nolan gets enough shit for the type of Batman he chose to portray with his films, and I think that his choice has been at least somewhat detrimental to the superhero film medium. Obviously Zack Snyder is a grown man with his own agency, but I do not think it’s a stretch to say that the “let’s make a gritty Batman trilogy where he fucks” chartered a course towards the Batfleck who kills. Again, this is not Nolan’s fault, Snyder is an adult and DC made their bed, and these films are fantastic in their own right, but I have sorely missed the image of a caring Batman. With all that said, the film itself is fantastic, and that is why I think Nolan got away with his version of Batman. Moreover, it most surely cannot be said that Nolan’s Batman was nearly as bad as Snyder’s later interpretation. At least Nolan’s doesn’t kill.
